How Often Should Gutters Be Cleaned?
For most homes, once a year is enough. If you live near trees or your roof sheds a lot of moss, twice a year is safer.
Signs your gutters are blocked
- Water spilling over the edge when it rains
- Plants or grass growing out of the gutter
- Damp patches or staining on the walls below
- Downpipes that gurgle or don't drain
The best time to clear them
Late autumn, once most leaves have fallen, is the most useful time. A spring check is worth adding if you have overhanging trees.
What a proper gutter clear includes
Gutters are emptied, downpipes are checked to make sure water runs freely, and any debris is bagged and taken away. I'll also let you know if I spot loose brackets or joints that need attention.
